ABC Daytime has announced today that All My Children is moving production from New York City to Los Angeles in an effort to cut production costs and capitalize on set space. In a related move, One Life to Live is set to inherit the current All My Children studio in New York. The new AMC set will be twice as large as the current one and it will include two stages, allowing for more permanent sets. OLTL will gain an additional 30% of studio space with the move. This added space will allow for both shows to follow General Hospital’s lead and upgrade to high-definition upon the move. AMC will go dark sometime in December to allow for the move and will resume taping episodes in Los Angeles on January 4, 2010. This will set up the debut of AMC in HD just in time for February sweeps. OLTL will make its move after AMC’s west coast relocation."
All My Children is one of the most recognizable brands in television, and we are committed to continue telling and enhancing the stories of the residents of Pine Valley," said Brian Frons, president of the Daytime division of the Disney/ABC Television Group in today’s press release. "The move to Los Angeles enables both All My Children and One Life to Live to dramatically improve the series production models and achieve significant efficiencies while enhancing each show. We had to examine every option on the table to combat the current economic realities, and rising costs of production, and we are doing it in a way that makes each of our shows stronger.” All My Children is the most Emmy nominated daytime drama this year, and One Life to Live held that title last year.
The story, which was broken last week by Daytime Confidential’s Jamey Giddens, was shot down by the network immediately. Even former star Eden Riegel (ex-Bianca, AMC) had tweeted last week on her personal Twitter that she was “hoping these rumors about AMC moving to LA are true. I always say the only thing that would improve LA would be the company of my AMC pals!” The actors were told that the move wasn’t happening after Daytime Confidential broke the story. Today, Frons broke the news to the cast and crew of AMC onset that the show is moving out west. Actress Chrishell Stause (Amanda, AMC) tweeted early this evening “They just confirmed AMC is moving to LA-private cast meeting starting now.”
It’ll be interesting to see which AMC actors will be willing to make the move. Many live in the tri-state area surrounding New York City and commute to work each day. Many have children in schools they may not want to move. It’s no secret that AMC has an older cast. Will those that have called New York City home for decades and raised their families there want to make the move? Thorsten Kaye (Zach, AMC) and partner Susan Haskell (Marty, OLTL) will face a very difficult task…which one will be forced to quit their job? Or will they make the tough choice to have a bicoastal relationship raising their two children? Apart from the actors, the move will also impact the crew of All My Children. Surely, many of them will be losing their jobs, as it’s much easier for AMC to hire new hair and makeup artists (especially those in L.A. already experienced with the art of doing makeup for unforgiving HD cameras) rather than relocate their existing employees.
With the cancellation of the longrunning CBS sudser Guiding Light and the threat of eminent cancellation for As the World Turns, which are both New York based, there’s already going to be a rather large influx of unemployed actors and crewmembers in the East coast soap world. Can the AMC cast afford to turn their noses up at this move?
While the genre is still alive and breathing they should be milking it for all its worth, because it won’t be long before the well dries up and daytime is dead. It is bold moves like this that are keeping cost down and keeping daytime alive to suds it up another day. All My Children and One Life to Live, you just got your reprieve.

A Fan I hope Thorsten Kaye comes back to One Life To Live, Patrick is not really dead. Marty said goodbye to John. AMC is my favorite show and then One Life To Live. I hope they find someone for Ryan as Greenlee and David are a perfect match. Something tells me that when Erica gets back from her plane crash, she will be somewhat different and maybe Fusion won't be so important anymore. Maybe she'll let Greenlee take charge again. |

All my children Adam Chandler is the Man you love to hate, a terrific Actor, Please offer him the moon to go to LA along with Zack and Kendall, Get rid of Annie Please, long time over her, I agree Greenlee is one of the very best re-additions, thank you..please mate her with someone other than Ryan, even if it is David I agree with above person that said Susan Lucci is a bad actress, I have no idea how she has held onto this one job so long, pretty yes,act no!I did like Bianca hope she can fly in sometimes, the best all my children shows were when All the girls killed by the satin slayer at Fusion were on the set, killing them off killed some of the very best actresses, I hope someone in charge really reads this stuff we fans write I have watched since 1980 along with tons of folks including men. Please heed your viewers. THINK ZACK, THINK ADAM,THINK GREENLEE,THINK KENDALL and thes slain Fusion girls. |

titleless Wasn't acting on a soap just a step on the ladder to prime time TV and feature films. Well, now the struggle just got easier because you're all in the same town...major advantage...and you don't freeze in the winter..that's nice. |

... I LOVE AMC. Love that Greenlee is back but dont want her with ryan. She deserves SO much better. Susan Lucci is a HORRIBLE actress. I ff through all of her scenes, but that will stop when Greenlee gets back to PV. Scott, ick. Sad Adam is leaving but totally understand. They need some new hunks! Please bring back Zack, I was just starting to like Kendall too. Love Kendall and Greens together. Dont bring back Bianca please. We dont need to have lesbians on EVERY show. Bring back Adian, that accent is hot, so is he. It doesnt matter to me where they tape as long as they are on my TV!!!!! Its better then them not able to keep the show going because of finances. |

Zach fan This is to "Bring Back Leo". Ummmmm...."Leo Du Pres" or better known as JOSH DUHAMMEL moved on years ago. You must not turn on Prime Time TV...or go to the movies. He starred in Las Vegas...a fabulous series that ran for a few years on NBC. He has been in movies...in fact, he has another one that will be released soon. It's too bad you have missed this hottie all these years. I suggest you google his name & track him down...cause he's not coming back to daytime anytime soon! He is also married to Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie. |

Writing Sometimes you really have to wonder who the writers are writing for. Many times it seems not to be for the fans. Beloved characters are unceremoniously dumped killed off and often the story line doesn't make sense(Brooke and Dixie for example). It would seem to me that if they can resurrect some characters that they ought to resurrect Dixie. I really don't know what to make of the soap anymore. I am now just a so-so fan as I don't think the writers and producers care about what the fans like anymore and what we would like to see. |

Bring back Leo (AMC) Okay, I have to say that All My Children has made it this far than it will continue to succeed. However, when I begin to loose interest I stop watching, but when I find out someone is coming back that I have not seen in a long time then I pick back up and start watching again. I think it is about time the writers brought Leo Du pres back, after all Greenlee is back. Her love life has not been the same without him. I do not see the chemistry between Ryan and Greenlee that Leo and her once had. Its was a surprise to me when I heard they were going to bring Greenlee back. Well it is a soap after all, right, so why not bring the love of her life back. Leo, anyone?? I think Ryan should stay with Erica as odd as that sounds. It is true they both have been through a lot and they both understand one another. I could see them falling in love down the road. After all Ryan did fall in love with Greenlee over time, so it could happen with him and Erica. I'm sure the new writers will have interesting story lines and it will keep viewers interested; especially if they bring Leo back. It will take a lot of brain storming, but they can do it, because they stay true to their viewers. |

... I stopped watching AMC because I was disgusted at how they had Bianca raped as an excuse to put her sexuality on mute. Then I was completely offended by the Zarf disaster of a storyline. And then I had no interest in the instacouple of Bianca and Reese. If they want to bring Bianca or another lesbian character back and show the build up and drama and give me a couple to root for, then I will watch. I hope this new head writer has some good ideas. Baby storylines and Ryan weren't enough to keep me interested, sorry, zzz. |

... The reasonS that I quit watching AMC: 1. Poor Writing 2. Repeating plots, over and over and over..... I wonder when they'll use the one about the woman in the well? 3. It's hard to believe that they are bringing the failed actress Rebecca Buddig back. Another nail in the coffin! |
