Contract negotiations between All My Children and Thorsten Kaye (Zach Slater) have broken down according to The New York Post. It is unknown exactly what has caused talks to break down between the show and Kaye, who has been a heavily featured character since his arrival on the show in 2004.
Online fans are speculating exactly what the cause of his "impasse" could be. Given the state of the current economy, and the state of daytime in general, would it be wise for Thorsten to play hardball with "All My Children?" Many assume the holdup is money, but others believe it may have something to do with storyline direction or time off. Whatever the case may be, SoapOperaSource.com hopes a resolution is reached as soon as possible.
It's no secret that losing Kaye would be a huge loss for "All My Children," as the actor has consistently been featured as a major player. Though popular from his days as Patrick on "One Life to Live" and later Ian on "Port Charles," Kaye's popularity surged upon the show's decision to pair his character Zach with Kendall, played by Alicia Minshew. Together the two have amassed a very large (and very vocal) fan base.
Negotiations between Minshew and AMC reportedly had some difficulties, but both sides were able to reach an agreement. Hopefully the same will play out here. Should Kaye depart, might he join his partner Susan Haskell on "One Life to Live"?
