'GL' Star Joins 'ATWT'

The loud buzz of Guiding Light star, Tom Pelphrey (Jonathan) joining it's sister soap As The World Turns over this past Emmy weekend in Los Angeles, has been confirmed by a ATWT representative. According to Soap Opera Digest, Tom will be joining the CBS soap as a new character named Mick.

In 2004, the New Jersey native quickly became a popular fixture on CBS' Guiding light as Jonathan Randall, the son of Reva Shayne and her late husband, Richard Winslow. Pelphrey gained popularity when Jonathan was paired with Tammy Layne Winslow (Stephanie Gatschet). Their romantic pairing was the cause of much controversy given the fact they were half cousins and siblings by adoption. Both Pelphrey and Gatschet exited their roles in early 2007, though Pelphrey returned to Oakdale as Jonathan later that year. He returned to the role for a third time in January 2008. In September 2007, a book about Jonathan Randall's life was published.

Over the course of his career, Tom has enjoyed much critical acclaim for his work. The actor has had four Daytime Emmy nominations (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008) and two Emmy wins (2006 and 2008) for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series. He also was nominated for a Soap Opera Digest award for Outstanding Male Newcomer in 2005.

no marlers
GL made Phillips' illness such a big part of these last days of guiding light. I didn't get to see a lot of it but, I can't believe there wasn't some off screen call or something to justin and samantha marler. Phillip finding out from Bradley Raines that he was adopted and the anger he felt for a long time towards both Alan, and Justin was such a big storyline.

Sorry to correct you..
'Both Pelphrey and Gatschet exited their roles in early 2007, though Pelphrey returned to Oakdale as Jonathan later that year...'

He returned to SPRINGFIELD not Oakdale..

I still can't believe Guiding Light is going to be over. I Love this show so very much. Glad Tom has found work, just wish it wasn't on CBS..

Such a shame
I still don't understand why he wouldn't go to GH. Instead, he goes to a sinking ship in ATWT? I guess he's just looking for an easy out when the show gets canceled next year.
