Emmy Watch 2010!
Mark your calendars! June 27th is the date for the 37th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards reports ABC Soaps In Depth. The ceremony will be held at the Las Vegas Hilton.Whether or not the event is televised is another story. Last year the awards ceremony, honoring the best in daytime television, were broadcast on August 30th on The CW. Last year's broadcast drew it's lowest ratings with 2.72 million viewers (0.6/2 in 18-49), but did perform better than anything that aired Sundays last summer on the network. The big 3 networks -- ABC, CBS and NBC have once again declined to broadcast the ceremony due to a decline in ratings. If it wasn't for The CW stepping up to the plate last year, the awards would have not been televised for the first time since 1984 (the Emmys weren't broadcast in 1983 and 1984).
DVD samples of the pre-nominees work was sent to voters on on March 26 for evaluation. All ballots are to be returned by Monday, April 26th. Nominations will be announced on Wednesday, May 12. That's great news for the nominees, who won't have to wait almost 3 months before finding out if they will take home a statuette.
UPDATE: The Emmys WILL be broadcast in 2010! CBS will air the ceremony live on Sunday, June 27 at 9PM. "The Daytime Emmy Awards are one of the cornerstones of our business and we are thrilled to be back on CBS," said Herb Granath, Chairman, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) in a statement. "Last year's show was one of the most entertaining events in our history, and this year's Las Vegas-based broadcast promises to be even more exciting."
"Daytime series have a loyal and passionate following," said Jack Sussman, Executive Vice President, Specials, Music and Live Events, CBS Entertainment. "We're excited to honor these series and their viewers in primetime with this annual showcase.
