'DAYS' Gains Most Among Daytime Dramas

In a recent press release, it was announced that NBC's only remaining daytime drama, Days of Our Lives, has delivered the biggest gains in their year to year numbers in Total Viewers and in the most important 18 to 49 demographics, than any other network daytime drama.

The soap delivered strong results for the week of October 5-9, bringing in a 13 percent gain in 18 to 49 demos and a huge 21 percent gain in total viewers for the same week last year. For the week of October 5-9, "Days of our Lives" (1.4 rating, 9 share among women 18-49, 1.0/7 among women 18-34) tied for #2 among network daytime series in both the women 18-49 and women 18-34 demographics. "Days" matched its highest women 18-49 rating in nearly 10 months (since the week of December 8-12, 2008), and matched its strongest women 18-34 rating in nearly four months (since June 8-12).

In comparison with their numbers from last year, the soap generated increases of 13 percent in women 18-49 viewers (946,000 vs. 838,000) and 21 percent in total viewers (3.0 million vs. 2.5 million). In addition, their season to date numbers have increased and is up 10 percent in women 18-49 (920,000 vs. 839,000), up 7 percent in women 18-34 (362,000 vs. 339,000), up 11 percent in women 25-54 (987,000 vs. 887,000) and up 17 percent in total viewers (3.0 million vs. 2.6 million). The show is also generating the biggest year-to-year total-viewer gain of any daytime series on the major networks and is the only daytime drama up in women 18-49 viewers.

Days of Our Lives is also maintaining their #2 position in the women 18-49 standings and ranks #2 in the women 18-34 category.

chappell helped some but good story is the main reason

crystal chappell has helped to increase days ratings but thats not the only reason. Days began making a comeback around this time last year and has gradually been pulling in more viewers since then. Im sorry to all those chappell fans that want to think its all her, but that is the truth and its based on fact. Days has been having great story lately and the ratings are reflecting that more than anything else.

The babyswitch has kept viewers away for more than a year. It is the strength of EJAMI fans flocking to see their favorite couple reunite that has driven these numbers through the roof. EJ and Sami are the reason. Carly Manning is a drip in the bucket. Vivian Alamain's return will have greater impact than Carly Manning.

Crystal Chappell had nothing to do with Days increasing ratings.

We all know that Crystal had very little to do with Days increasing their ratings on the week that CC premiered as Carly M. COME ON PEOPLE! Days had 110,000+ new viewers lurking around without tuning in prior Oct. 2 because we were patiently waiting for EJ and Nicole baby switching story(very original sl!)to climax. Yes,we were hiding until then because....because we're shy!,LOL.

Crystal is not in the Days official cast photo because she did not start at Days until after this photo was taken. There is only one official cast photo taken each year and used for publicity purposes.

I'm a CC fan and I'm sure some of the ratings success for Days was due to her return. However, you can't discount the fact that Days biggest story for the year in the baby switch came to a big climax. I'm sure that EJ finding out Nicole miscarried and Sidney isn't his biological child had a big part in the ratings rise as well.

Interesting to know the difference in ratings the week before?

I'd be curious to know if there was a significant rise in viewership compared to weeks preceeding Oct 5-9... and when the increase started... maybe around Sep 18th? After all there was a sudden gap left by GL (oh how I miss that show, it's acting, it's production model, the characters, Otalia!)

happytk - We didn't credit the ratings increase to Crystal Chappell b/c the press release didn't tout that. We are working on a column regarding Crystal and her move to DAYS, but for this we just reported what NBC presented us.

The reason Crystal isn't in the photo is because this picture was taken before she returned.

And its weird that cast photo of DOOLs includes everyone but Crystal Chappell!

Why didn't you mention that Crystal Chappell is responsible for the spike in DOOLs numbers??!!!

I know many of the women who were following Crystal Chappell and the Otalia storyline jumped over in droves to watch her on DOOLs. It would have been nice if this article had mentioned that was the reason for the increase in numbers .....
