Eric Braeden Written Out of 'Y&R'!

Eric Braeden is the latest star of The Young and the Restless embroiled in tough contract negotiations.

In recent months, Y&R veterans Jess Walton (Jill Foster Abbott) and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman) have both faced pink slips due to what was then reported -- their refusals to take a pay cut on daytime's #1 rated soap. Immediately, a casting call went out for the role of Jill when Walton refused her pay cut, and the character of Nikki was written out for a few months when Scott decided to play hardball in her contract negotiations.  Eventually, negotiations came to a positive conclusion and both actresses remained with the show.  Now TV Guide Canada's Nelson Branco is reporting that, Braeden, whose contract isn't up until 2010, has been written out of the show.

According to his agent, Braeden has taped his final scenes, for now. As Y&R has done with other cast members, they've asked the Emmy winner to take a pay cut in the middle of his current 13-week cycle.

Nelson Branco shed light on the issue that is creating the problem during negotiations. "Actors like Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki), who this past summer was written out after she balked over the same issue, are furious; not over the fact that they are being asked to take pay cuts but that they are being expected to re-negotiate their contracts during their 13-week cycles," Branco wrote. "It is important to note that they are willing to take pay cuts but at the end of their contracts."

Braeden's rep told Soap Opera Digest that the actor is currently in talks with the show and may or may not return. Recent gunshot wound victim Victor, who is about to receive brain dead god daughter Colleen Carlton's (Tammin Sursok) heart, will reportedly go on vacation with Nikki sometime after the surgery to accommodate the actor's absence. According to Branco, during Braeden's last day on set, the actor gave a speech to the cast saying he may not come back, thanking the cast and crew for the memories.

Braeden joined the soap in 1980 as business tycoon Victor Newman, one of daytime's most iconic roles.  A German immigrant who came to the United States in 1959, Braeden was once awarded the Federal Medal of Honor by the President of Germany for promoting a "positive, realistic image of Germans in America." The former semi-pro soccer player has appeared in the blockbuster film Titanic and Escape From the Planet of the Apes, as well as in television shows such as The Nanny and How I Met Your Mother.

Soap Opera Source will keep you updated on this story as it develops.

Editor's Note: We're of the belief you should honor the agreement already in place. The fact that the contracts of Braeden and others aren't being honored is what is disappointing. If you want the man to take a paycut, wait until his CURRENT deal expires. It's the right thing to do.

Don't Lose the Mustache!!!!
I have been watching Young and the Restless for 25 years and I think Sony would be making the biggest mistake of their life in getting rid of this one and only icon who has worked so hard to amuse the public eye. If anything he should get a raise and not a cut in pay!!!!!

Sony (&whoever else) are absolutely crazy to let Eric leave Y&R, cant believe a company like Sony would stoop to such lousy business practices regarding the stars contracts!!! I too, will NOT watch y&r any longer after nov. 2. How many fans have to respond before sony will wake up????Eric is the heart of this show, and without him there is NO show. So many people are attached to him as a actor on this show, and to let him leave is killing another soap opera. the writers have over the past 30 yrs. lead this show to revolve around Victor Neuman, and thus have created a soap worth watching. but, that is all over now. I hope that Sony and partners suffer a huge loss over this escapade.... this action is definetely the straw that broke the camel's back!!!!!

His last scene is Nov. 2. That will be my last time watching Y&R. I've been watching it since 1988, or since i was three. All i can remember was Victor being the face of Y&R.

Don't Let Eric Braeden Go!!!!!
PLEASE PLEASE don't let Eric go -- if he goes so will so many of your viewers including me!!!!! Please please don't let him go. He is way too valuable to Y&R!!!!!!!

Here's to you Eric Braeden from Rat Patrol to Y and R to TITANIC!!!
Y and R is the only SOAP that I watch. I do not believe for one minute that The Bell Family will let Eric Braeden get away from being the most dynamic presence on Daytime TV. If Nov the 2nd is the last air date for Victor Newman,I will have an extra free hour a day to do something other than watch The Young and The Restless.Watching the show has been wonderful, but without Eric Braeden,Ain't No Way!!!!

Let's all remember what happened to other soaps where " major players" were asked to take salary cuts. They are no longer on air. The most recent being Guiding Light. You can replace some characters, but not Victor or Nicki. Somebody better rethink this one or CBS is going to be a soap graveyard!

leaving
I will not watch the show without Eric Braeden. I stopped watching when I found out he was leaving. He IS the show! Ger rid of Daniel, Amber, Janna, ADAM, Gloria, Jeffrey, I used to fast forward through their storylines. The show was going down the tube with these. With Braeden gone, just cancel it.

KEEP VICTOR NEWMAN
The entire show revolves around Victor- he can't leave. It won't be the same without him and I probably won't watch anymore. Get rid of some of the stupid characters like Amber and Deacon and Chloe- keep the backbone and the one who has brought the show to where it is today- Victor Newman.

Huge Mistake
Certain shows are built around certain characters. Victor Newman (Eric Braeden) is the powerhouse on the show. He is the one that you want to see involved in every storyline. His acting skills are amazing. Not having him nominated for awards is shameful enough, but to ask this talented asset to accept a paycut with just over a year left on his current contract is incredulous. Sony should honor the current contract and take other actors/actresses down to a recurring status - i.e. Gloria, Jeffery, Mackenzie, Billy, etc. The characters on which the show is built (Victor, Nikki, Nick, Jack, Sharon, Phyllis, Jill, Catherine) should be the ones that you treat with respect. They've been there through the years to keep this show at #1. The show will eventually be without the character of Victor Newman and someone else, like Nick, will become the next Black Knight. But, to ask Eric Braeden to take a paycut and then axe the character he's portrayed for more than two decades is not the way the dedicated viewers want to see this take place. Eric doesn't deserve it and neither do the fans. If this is how Sony chooses to do business, I too will boycot the show I've been watching every since 1991. My wife and I watch it every day while eating dinner (gotta love DVR). We may not switch to another soap (Y&R is #1 for a reason), but we'll choose to watch CSI or some other show if Eric isn't brought back. The show will be nothing without him. Not taking away from the other actors/actresses and their characters, but the show is built upon the vets and Eric is a crucial part of the backbone for this soap.

You have got to be kidding me!
Y & R with out Victor Newman??? ! PALEEZE!!!!!!

Ok....always said if Victor leaves I have to go...just one of those people you love to hate. Dumb Sony!!!!

WIll Stop Watching
Sony is CRAZY and obviously does not want to make money, as no one is going to stay committed to Y&R without Eric Braeden! So, next year they will be singing the same tune that the Guiding Lights sang...The End!

If Eric Braeden is written off the show you will be doing The Young and The Restless and very big disservice. NO ONE CAN EVER REPLACE HIM in his role as Victor Newman. I have been a Y&R fan for over 20 years and quite frankly, He is about the only reason I have been still watching the show lately. The story lines have been so lame and uninteresting that I would have stopped watching a long time ago if it had not been for The Great Victor Newman. I hope you will reconsider this action and keep him on your show or I like many, many, many others will quit watching and switch to one of the other soaps.

Won't watch any more...
I've been watching Y&R ever since I can remember...my grandmother watched, my Mom watches, I watch and now my 1 year old daughter even recognizes the theme song. Eric Braeden being written out of the show is THE last straw. I've gradually stopped watching b/c of this Ashley/Adam...Amber/Daniel/Deacon foolishness and now this! If he leaves I'm done!

Seriously?
Sony is getting ridiculous. To ask someone for a pay cut in the middle of a contract is simply wrong, but to ask one of the longest, main characters for a pay cut in the middle of his contract is brainless. If this continues to go on, I will have to stop watching Y&R which includes supporting Sony's decisions. They have done this to Jill, Nikki and now Victor's character, when will it stop? It won't until the viewers urge them to stop. Let them know that we are not going to allow them to treat characters that we grew up watching being treated like their disposable.

If you get rid of Victor, it's a major disaster. If he leaves, who is next, Katherine Chancellor, Jack Abbot, Nick ....give me a break all these people are essential for the continuity of this long=running show.

Eric Braeden leaving
For me, personally, I couldnt' care less that Eric is leavng. I've watched this show from it's onset, but to me, Victor Newman is unredeemable. And for him to receive Coleen's heart was just ridiculous! Let him DIE! I won't miss him. And watching Victoria and Nikki rejoice over this makes me want to puke! They make me sick right now. And Ashley -- she is just tooo stupid to think she actually gave birth! Come on writers! How stupid do you assume your viewers are!?
Cathy Peez , October 06, 2009
Keep Eric Braeden
If Victor is written off the show, I will no longer watch. If the show needs to make cuts, they can start by cutting crazy Gloria and that good for nothing Jeffrey and Lily and Ashley and several others that the show has recently added.Victor and Nikki are the main reason I watch this soap opera and have for years and was hoping to see the couple reunite in the months ahead. These actors/actresses should not have to re-negotiate their contracts every 13 weeks, that is ridiculous for actors/actresses that have been long time cast members. I am furious and upset over this decision. I say fire the producers/writers or whoever is responsible for even thinking this is an option!
Alison , October 06, 2009
!
Eric and Melody are the show!!!! You will lose allot of long term fans, including myself (22 years)!!!! Get rid of the current writers is more like . The Ashley/Sharon/Adam storyline has got to be the stupidest storyline I have ever seen in a soap opera. Ashley is not a cocaine addict that would not know if she is pregnant or not, much less know that she didn't give birth - give a break!!!! Eric and Melody leaving is the very very last straw.
Tamra , October 02, 2009
This is a dream come true for me..........
I would love to see the show Melody Scott and Eric Braedon off of the show . They are the main reason I quit watching several years ago. I would start watching again if they were gone. TJMHO
CATHY WINGFIELD , October 01, 2009
Victor gets Colleens heart Y&R will never be seen on my TV again
Y&R is a disaster but to give Victor Colleens heart is the dumbest thing I have seen...and for Jack to go along with it is even worse...After watching Y&R for 15 years it will be over for me.
Tomas , October 01, 2009
Eric Braeden Leaving Y&R
Say it ain't so. Everything in Genoa City revolves around Victor Newman. Eric Braeden is the star of the show, a daytime icon. It's bad enough to watch the silly storylines involving Adam, Gloria and Jeffrey - and now Victor may never return to the show?
Bitsey Horton , October 01, 2009

I am so angry with the stupid storylines for Y&R.Have been afan since it started.I loved this soap and it's charecters. But it has been on crash course with it's writer's from Hell, who have destroyed this great soap opera.I will like thousands stop watching if Eric Braeden leaves and these cartoon storylines don't stop!!
Pat Rice , September 30, 2009
???
If Eric Braeden is written off the show Y&R will no longer be a top rated show. The viewership will drop drasticly and Eric is the show. Lots of viewer are getting tired of the silly story lines and his leaving will be the straw that broke the camels back.
